PROSTHODONTIC CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS

Since 2007, Dr. Shonberg has been a member of the Classification Implementation Task Froce of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP).  He has been working with a classification system called the Prosthodontic Diagnostic Index (PDI), which stratifies edentulous, partially edentulous, and dentate patients into four groups, depending upon the severity of their condition.  The PDI is used in many dental schools to help determine the level of education and experience necessary to treat particular patients.   It has additional potential uses in defining patient populations for dental research, in determining dental  insurance reimbursement, and for informing patients about their oral condition.   Access to these systems is provided in the hopes that you may find the information both useful and interesting, and perhaps applicable to the diagnostic flow in your private practice.
